Customs revenue increased progressively since the beginning of the Programme. In 2002 the revenue totalled 2.7bn BGN, which increased to 3.2bn BGN in 2003 and 4.1bn BGN in 2004. This represents a 53 per cent uplift in just over two years. In 2005 the Bulgarian Customs Agency exceeded all records collecting more than 5 billion Bulgarian Levs (2.5 billion Euro) for the first time. This is more than double the receipts before the beginning of the customs programme.

This trend continued and customs revenue collections for 2006 were even higher, resulting in an increase of 182% over the whole programmes. Thus the Government of Bulgaria had more funds to spend on its programme of social and long term economic reforms.
